Greenwich-Hospital-Yale-MRIA crane hoists an 18,000-pound Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) magnet to its home at 260 Long Ridge Road in Stamford, the new Yale New Haven Health outpatient facility. A formal ribbon cutting will take place in September, but patient visits began in mid-August. The Siemens 3.0 Tesla Skyra is a state-of-the-art MRI that features a more comfortable bed and provides quicker, higher quality examinations, which lead to improved diagnoses. A section of the building exterior was removed to accommodate the MRI delivery, which took approximately five hours to complete. The specially designed room is lined with lead and reinforced flooring, including steel plates within the steel beams on the underside of the concrete floor slab. The 50,000-square-feet facility is a collaborative effort between Greenwich Hospital, Yale Medical Group, Yale New Haven’s Center for Musculoskeletal Care and Northeast Medical Group for primary care services. Greenwich Hospital will provide blood draw, infusion, physical and occupational therapy and diagnostic imaging.
