Greenwich Hovers Just Over 25 Percent in Voter Turnout

The Town of Greenwich, along with every town and city in the State of Connecticut, came out to vote for during both the republican and democratic primary.

Greenwich voters made their voices heard for numerous government positions, with the Connecticut governor candidates highlighting he ballots.

In total, and out of 22,478 eligible voters, Greenwich had 5,872 voters come out. That led to a turnout of 26.12%. Greenwich’s high water mark for turnout happened between 6 to 7 p.m., as 517 voters picked their candidates. Granted it was a steady stream of voters from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., as the Town had six one-hour blocks where over 430 voters each hour entered the voting booths.

When it comes to political parties, the democrats in Greenwich had a voter turnout of 27.63% hit the polls, while the republicans had a voter turnout of 24.96%.

For this year’s primary, the democrats voted for its candidate for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Treasurer, Attorney General and Registrar of Voters. The republicans voted for its candidate for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, United States Senator, Treasurer, Comptroller and Attorney General.

When it came to the Governor position, the republicans voted for either Mark Boughton, Tim Herbst, Steve Obsitnik, Bob Stefanowski or David Stemerman. The democrats had two choices in either Ned Lamont or Joe Ganim.

For Lieutenant Governor, republicans had to choose between Joe Markley, Jayme Stevenson or Erin Stewart. The democrats chose between Susan Bysuewicz and Eva Bermudez Zimmerman.
