It was a night to remember for the Brunswick School Varsity Hockey team, as they clinched a thrilling overtime win against The Frederick Gunn School Varsity Hockey team, with a final score of 3-2.
The Bruins had their Elite 8 hopes on the line and knew they had to give it their all on Senior Night at Hartong Rink. The team came out strong, but Gunn took an early lead, and the Bruins found themselves trailing 1-0 heading into the third period.
However, the Bruins refused to give up and rallied back, scoring two goals in quick succession from Sean Gibbons and Drew DellaSalla. With 5:09 left on the clock, Brunswick was leading 2-1 and looking to hold on for the win.
But Gunn wasn’t going down without a fight, and they managed to score the equalizer with just over three minutes remaining in the game. The Bruins knew they had to keep their heads up and focus on their game plan.
With the game tied at 2-2, the teams headed into overtime, and Brunswick was determined to come out on top. The Bruins outshot Gunn 39-31 and talked about keeping their shifts short, committing to defense, and directing all pucks to the net in the extra session.
It was a game-winning play by DellaSalla and senior Eli Friedman that led to the Bruins’ victory. DellaSalla snapped a perfect pass to the slot, where Niko Cadoret had crept in from the blueline and was uncovered in between the hash marks. Cadoret calmly received the puck and buried it to the top corner to empty the benches, securing the win for the Bruins.
It was a perfect ending to the game for Cadoret, a senior and four-year letterman on Senior Night. The win was a team effort, and the Bruins’ seniors, including goaltender Brendan Holahan, James Shannon, Sloan Farmer, Hunter Spiess, Daniel Hu, and Collin Eschricht, all played significant roles in the exhilarating victory.
The Bruins now wait for the playoff update after today’s slate of NEPSAC games. Their next game is against T-P on Friday in Pawling at 7 pm.
