Debra Ann Nielson, 66, a longtime resident of Greenwich and Stamford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021. Debra was born in Greenwich, CT, on Nov. 3, 1954, daughter of the late James and Ann Barnes Aylward.
Debra was a graduate of Greenwich High School and Norwalk Community College. She was previously employed by Owens- Illinois, Inc. of Stamford CT and the town of Greenwich for which she worked many years in both the legal and education departments. Debra, was a fun loving, warm and compassionate person. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed cooking, yoga and walking. She seldom missed a daily walk whether with friends or solo. Debra particularly loved spending time with family and friends in Florida.
Debra is survived by her two sons Andrew Nielson of Stamford, and Patrick Nielson of Greenwich, her brother Richard Summers Jr., (Rick) of Old Greenwich, a sister Diane Summers-Yelton and her husband Trey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a stepsister Bonnie Summers and her husband Dan Carlson of Norwalk, CT along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Debra was predeceased by a step-father, Richard Summers, and her sisters, Dawn Manis and Dana Henderson.
The family would like to thank Constellations Health Services and Fairfield County House Hospice for their loving and compassionate care to Debra and support to her loved ones.
Calling hours were on Thursday, April 1 at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, Stamford. Interment was privately held.
