On Friday, Greenwich Public Schools released an update on how COVID-19 is impacting the district. Of note, all cases so far can be attributed to outside activities from school, or family exposure.
GPS noted that the Connecticut State Department of Education and CT Department of Public Health released the following statement earlier this week:
“The experience in our state since school reopening began indicates that transmission has been a rare event inside of school buildings even in communities with elevated transmission rates, likely due to the high-level of planning and compliance with mitigation strategies designed to prevent transmission between individuals. This same level of planning and compliance is not necessarily in place in other settings outside of school buildings, and so engagement in general community activities requires more caution.”

In a statement on Friday, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Toni Jones, said the District is following guidelines and procedures “very seriously”, and that they are “proving to be effective.”
“All of the cases have originated from non-school activities and exposure from individuals outside of our buildings. At the moment, we have not had a single additional positive case due to close contact within our schools, in part, because of quarantining,” Jones said. “This is a safety mechanism designed to force students and staff to stay home and limit exposure. The dedication our teachers have shown is unbelievably impressive as we all navigate new procedures and guidelines. We are working hard to keep everyone safe and healthy. ”
District spokesperson, Jonathan Supranowitz, said GPS will try to update it’s revamped COVID-19 information page twice a week. For more information, click here.
