The Junior League of Greenwich, in partnership with Neighbor to Neighbor, is once again supporting local mothers in need through the annual Baby Bundles project.

Each year, the Junior League collects items such as unopened diaper packages, onesies, blankets, formula, new pacifiers, new bottles, clothes, burp clothes and other items, and Neighbor to Neighbor helps distribute packages to new mothers and their babies.

This year, 40 women will each receive a Baby Bundle, which comes nicely wrapped in cellophane and adorned with ribbons

“I think this is an incredible project,” said Junior League of Greenwich President, Debra McLaughlin, noting that the project has been around for about 10 years. “We’re blessed to have a partner like Neighbor to Neighbor because they provide the mechanism to deliver these Baby Bundles to these mothers.”

Members of the community can either drop off items at the JLG headquarters, located at 231 E. Putnam Ave., or they can simply log on to Amazon and search for the Junior League of Greenwich under the baby registry category. Items purchased will be seamlessly shipped to JLG headquarters from Amazon.

McLaughlin said that the JLG has made great progress in organizing all 40 Baby Bundles, but some items are still needed. Most notably, baby bouncers are highly-sought after and useful items for new mothers to use.

“The baby bouncer allows the mother to put the child into a position safely; it calms the baby. It seems to be a very requested item from a lot of new mothers,” McLaughlin said.

On May 5, the Baby Bundles will start to be distributed to the Neighbor to Neighbor clients, just in time for Mother’s Day which takes place on Sunday, May 13.

“It’s a great opening to the Mother’s Day weekend to deliver these Baby Bundles. For most of these clients, I believe it is their first child. So receiving something that has a baby bouncer in it, with diapers and formula and bottles is a tremendous gift,” McLaughlin said. “I think it’s an uplifting gift for that mother.”

The JLG will be accepting donations through April 30. For more information, email jlg@jlgreenwich.org or go to jlgreenwich.org.
