This past Saturday, the Greenwich community embraced the holiday spirit in support of the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich’s annual “Pancake Breakfast with Santa.”

For over 100 years, the BGCG provides children in town with a safe, nurturing environment in which they can learn, grow, and explore new opportunities in an affordable manner.

“This event is one of my favorites, because it’s about making everyone smile,” said Bobby Walker, CEO of BGCG, whose own smile never left his face.

“It’s also the time of year when we can get our families together under one roof, which is powerful,” added Walker.

Families and friends of the BGCG enjoyed a hearty breakfast of limitless pancakes and sausage while lining up for a visit with Santa, many having their keepsake photo taken with him.

Santa himself, one of the many volunteers committed to the BGCG for years, had also been a “club kid.”

In addition, kids lined up anxiously for holiday-themed face painting and festive arts and crafts requisite with red and green inspired decoration.

The roomful of guests embraced the event’s grand finale—a heart-warming performance by the well-rehearsed BGCG carolers. Crowd members sang along and swayed to Christmas favorites like “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells.”

The BGCG programs are quite vast and include high-quality educational programs such as homework support, character and leadership development, art exploration, swimming programs, summer camp and much more.

They currently serve over 1,850 children, up to 350 per day. The cost for a child to become a club member is $50 per year.

“This is truly one of the few places in town where kids can come to have a safe and productive place to go,” said Walker. “Every little bit of encouragement we can give them is important,” adds Walker.

Many of the parents of club kids were also members of the club when they were young, growing up in Greenwich.

“I’ve seen first-hand by the family members who are here today how this club helped shape the successful men and women that they became today” expressed Walker.

“Their start came from being shown that they were truly cared for as kids.  All I see in these kids here are leaders” stated Walker proudly.
