On Nov. 3, the American Diabetes Association presented their inaugural “Change the Future” chef event.
Supported in part by Diamond Sponsor Stamford Hospital, the evening honored Dr. KevanHerold, Professor of Immunobiology and Medicine at Yale University. Master Chefs prepared a unique and interactive multimedia, farm-to-plate culinary experience at the Greenwich Country Club.
Co-chairs Shelly Tretter Lynch and James Parker welcomed over 225 guests to a six-course dinner paired with wines in a cooking adventure. All of it was guided by Emcee Victor Rallo, host of Eat! Drink! Italy!, special guest chef George Mendes of ALDEA, and master chefs: Rui Correia of Douro Restaurant, Frederic Kieffer of l’escale, Lisa and Stephen Maronian of Sweet Lisa’s, Bill Taibe, of Le Farm Restaurant, Edward Varipapa of Leon’s Restaurant, and Marc Weber, of On the Marc.
The evening raised over $165,000 to support Camp Carefree, which serves more than 5,300 children with diabetes. The American Diabetes Association funds over $14.5 million research dollars in the fight against diabetes in New England, along with their campaigns to raise awareness and educate those affected by the disease. 29.1 million Americans have diabetes, 350,000 in Connecticut and 60,000 here in Fairfield County.
