The Greenwich Sentinel is looking back at what made headlines in 2015 for Greenwich businesses.

The Chamber of Commerce’s annual Sidewalk Sales were once again a big hit. Over 150 stores in the Greenwich downtown area participate in the four day event that attracts shoppers from all over.

“People come from Long Island, in fact three sisters just said they are staying overnight. We’ve got people from Boston and we have people from all over the Westchester and Connecticut area,” said Chamber of Commerce President Marcia O’Kane.

Sophia’s Costume’s located just off Greenwich Avenue celebrated 35 years of costumes and vintage clothing. Owner Sophia Scarpelli says the store has about 3500 costumes for people to rent or purchase.

“The people that I have met through this store bring a lot of different elements. I have met a lot of different people. I have met a lot of bizarre people, a lot of crazy people and I have met a lot of wonderful people and my life has been colored by all the experiences I have had in this store.”

Another local business celebrated a big birthday in 2015. Salon O located in Byram turned 10 years old back in October. Co-owner Omar Roth said he fell in love with Byram and his loyal customers.

“Quite frankly I didn’t even know about this side of Greenwich. It’s sophisticated, friendly, and the energy is amazing,” said Roth.
