The Brunswick School soccer team hosted Kent School Saturday afternoon and came away with the  3-1 victory on the King Street campus.

Brunswick scored early, as Sal Lopez buried a penalty kick in the fourth minute. The penalty kick took place because James Sands drew a tough tackle from Kent goalkeeper Aayush Shah.

The Bruins struck again at the 35 minute mark, as James Sands connected with his brother Will Sands on a beautiful long ball from Brunswick’s half of the field. Will Sands gained control of the ball and put in the net following a one-on-one with Shah.

Kent capitalized on one of the few chances they had at the 53rd minute and netted a goal, but the momentum didn’t last long, as Brunswick goalkeeper Will Salomon had to make two big saves to keep the score at 2-1.

Lopez returned the favor from Sands at the 66th minute, drawing a penalty kick following another foul on Shah, which James put away for the final score of the game.

Salomon made five saves in the winning effort and snatched a few key crosses out of the air in the second half to squash any further Kent scoring chances.

Huge defensive performances were turned in by center backs Jared Boothe and Ben Powers, with Dante Polvara (midfield) and Nate Stuart (forward) also playing impactful minutes in the match.

The Bruins will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Trinity Pawling.
