There’s no place like home and the Brunswick School water polo team finally experienced a home match for the first time in nearly two weeks Saturday afternoon against Loomis and Deerfield.

In the first game, Brunswick started slowly against a steadily improving Deerfield squad. Pat Stefanou and Simon Derby each scored in the first quarter, but their goals sandwiched a tally by Deerfield. In the second stanza, however, Brunswick went on a 5-0 run. When the first half concluded Brunswick was up 8-2. After three it was 9-4 Brunswick and it ended 10-4.

Derby finished with five goals, while Will Prout added two. In addition to Stefanou, Nico Apostolides and Jack Muccia each added one goal. Charlie Pang had an easy game in the nets making two saves on four shots.

In the second game, Derby scored three of his five goals to give Brunswick 3-1 lead over Loomis Chaffee School.

In the second quarter four different Brunswick players scored to give the hosts 7-1 halftime lead. In the third, again received scoring from all over the pool to stretch its lead to 11-5, and Brunswick finished with a 13-6 win.

Just like in the first game, Derby led the Bruins with five goals. Not to be outdone was Apostolides, who pitched in with the hat trick. Muccia scored twice and Stefanou, Cole Pierce and Tim Saunders netted one goal each.

With the two wins, Brunswick improved to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in the New England Prep School Water Polo League. The Bruins will play again on Friday when Greenwich High School visits the King Street campus once again as Brunswick’s Homecoming opponent.

Brunswick is looking to avenge one of its two losses on the season, a 12-11 double overtime loss of a couple of weeks ago.
