The Brunswick School soccer team recorded its eighth consecutive win Wednesday, traveling to New York and beating Trinity Pawling 3-1.

The Bruins’ attacking players continue to frustrate defenders resulting in fouls in the box. At the 30th minute, Will Sands was taken down in the corner of the 18 and Sal Lopez buried the penalty kick to open the scoring.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the half, Brunswick again possessed the ball very well, freely moving the ball from defenders through the midfield up to our strikers. Trinity Pawling goalkeeper Juan De La Cruz, of Stamford, made some big saves to keep his team in the game.

Both teams struggled to build momentum at the start of the second half.  A hard tackle from Grant Quackenbush at the 54th minute resulted in a penalty kick and an equalizing goal for Trinity Pawling. However, it didn’t last long. At the 58th minute, Lopez broke free on a great through ball from Nick Boardman to net the  score.

From there, play got a little chippy. A hard foul from Trinity Pawling in the 67th minute resulted in a free kick just outside the box, which brothers James and Will Sands beautifully orchestrated to end in a goal off the foot of Dante Polvara. Will Sands ran over the ball and towards the corner. James Sands played it to Will’s feet, and Will quickly put it towards at the top of the six.

Will Salomon earned the victory in net, making six saves in the winning effort.  Defenders Thomas Errichetti and Ben Powers, midfielder Nick Boardman and striker Luis Hernandez all had impactful performances.

The Bruins will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Choate for Homecoming under the lights at Cosby Field at 5 p.m.
