Sacred Heart Volleyball Blanks Rival Greenwich Academy, 3-0

The Convent of the Sacred Heart volleyball team traveled across town to Greenwich Academy and came away with a hard-fought 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-11) victory over their rivals.

The Tigers got off to a slow start in the first set, as the Gators took an early lead by seven points. However, Sacred Heart calmly fought back and won that set 25-15 en route to the victory.

Co-captain Brooke Wilkens paced CSH with 13 digs, four service aces and three kills. Not to be outdone was Jenna Whelan, who added seven kills, seven digs, two aces and one assist. Co-captain Marie Njie-Mitchell pitched in with five kills, two blocks and two digs, while teammate Natalia Pazos grabbed 17 assists, four aces and two kills.

Ellie McKenney rounded out the scoresheet with five kills, six digs and four aces.

With the victory, Sacred Heart upped its overall record to 7-3 and will be back in action Saturday when they travel to St. Luke’s for a match that gets underway at 12:30 p.m.
