On April 30, 2016 Old Greenwich Martial Artist and Instructor Ik Jo Kang was inducted into the United States Tae Kwon Do (TKD) Grand Masters Society Hall of Fame, one of the most prestigious recognitions given to a TKD martial artist.
The ceremony, attended by Grand Master martial artists from across the country, was held at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton in Fort Lee, N.J.
The United States TKD Grand Masters Society Hall of Fame was established in 2003 to honor Taekwondo’s finest practitioners, the best of the best in recognition of the contribution that they have made in the preservation and promotion of this martial art.
Grand Master Kang recently finished an independent feature film in which he stars called I Can I Will I Did that will be due out sometime in 2017.
Training in martial arts teaches focus, discipline, concentration, integrity and technical skill — traits which have served Grand Master Kang’s students well in their careers and in their lives. Over the course of his 50 years of teaching, Grand Master Ik Jo Kang has trained thousands of school-age and adult students and inspired hundreds to pursue their study to achieve black belt status.
His expertise ranges through Tae Kwon Do (karate), Hap Ki Do (self-defense) and Kum Do (sword). His school, Kang Tae Kwon Do & Hap Ki Do, is located on Sound Beach Ave. in Old Greenwich.
In addition to being respected within the martial arts community, Ik Jo Kang also is well known for his community service. He has served president of the Korean Association of New York and the Korean Association of the United States, chaired the Federation of Korean American Committees for the 1988 Olympics and has received numerous honors, including the Dongbaeg medal for civic service in Korea.
