Greenwich Library announces its Opening Night Celebration, featuring a very special performance by Music From The Sole. The fundraising event on Friday, October 3, 2025, includes a dance performance in Greenwich Library’s Berkley Theater at 7:00 p.m., followed by a celebratory cocktail party and grazing dinner by Marcia Selden Catering in the Library‘s Reading Room. Event co-chairs Bey-Shan Liu and Jun Brumberg with Friends of Greenwich Library will host the evening. Dancers from the company will also join the festivities! Tickets are available at: greenwichlibrary.org/support/opening–night
Funds raised from the October 3 Opening Night Celebration event will support the upcoming season of performing arts programming at Greenwich Library‘s Berkley Theater. This includes two free performances by Music From The Sole on Saturday, October 4, plus a yearlong array of extraordinary cultural and educational experiences. Greenwich Library prides itself on providing, in addition to its author events and signature lecture series, additional world-class performing arts and cultural programs, which are all free and accessible to the entire Greenwich Library community.
“We are thrilled to be able to feature the amazing artistry and compelling performance by Music From The Sole for this year’s Opening Night Celebration,” noted Jun Brumberg, co-chair of the Friends of Greenwich Library Opening Night Celebration committee. “This is our only event that helps raise critical funds for performing arts programming for the Library. Through the community’s support, the Library is able to continue to offer world-class performances and programming free of charge all year long.”
Music From The Sole is a dynamic dance and live music company that features Afro-Brazilian tap dancing that celebrates tap’s Afro-diasporic roots, particularly its connections to Afro-Brazilian dance and music, and its lineage to forms like house dance and passinho (Brazilian funk). Led by Brazilian choreographer Leonardo Sandoval and by composer Gregory Richardson, Music From The Sole’s work embraces tap’s unique nature as a blend of sound and movement, incorporating wide-ranging influences like samba, passinho, Afro-Cuban, jazz, and house. Recent credits include appearances at Lincoln Center, Kaatsbaan, Jacob’s Pillow, The Yard, Caramoor Jazz Festival, Battery Dance Festival, and Tap in Rio. They were recently commissioned to create new pieces by Works And Process at the Guggenheim Museum, and have received support from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, New England Foundation for the Arts, and the Jerome Foundation. Driven by a firm belief in the transformational power of both dance and music, the company has also partnered with organizations like the National Dance Institute and Lincoln Center Education, highlighting a deep commitment to community engagement, inclusivity, and social impact.
In addition to the Opening Night Celebration, two free performances by Music From The Sole will be held on Saturday, October 4, at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. Tickets for those performances will be available later this summer.
