The Town of Greenwich will hold a short salute on Thursday, June 6 at 4 p.m. outside Town Hall to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy, France, better known as D-Day.
On June 6, 1944, the greatest amphibious landing in history took place and it is considered by many historians that this successful invasion of Nazi-controlled France turned the tide of World War II to an Allied victory. Many brave Americans were among those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of freedom in that invasion and the Town of Greenwich will remember those who served and those who lost their lives.
First Selectman Camillo and other Town officials will be on hand for the event along with representatives from local veterans groups. The event is open to everyone and members of the public are encouraged to attend.
