Waste Free Greenwich is hosting a #ReThink Waste Fair on Saturday, May 7th at the Christ Church Parish Hall from 11am-3pm. The fair will be an engaging, family-friendly event that explores creative ways to “rethink” our waste through the 6Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle and Rot. Activities will include a free vintage clothing boutique, composting demo, kids recycled art project, science experiments, interactive exhibits by local green organizations and more.
The fair also features a recycling drive for those hard to recycle items, like batteries, crayons, corks, and textiles. Responsibly and safely recycle your electronics, like computers, microwaves, VCRs, DVD players, cameras and televisions, for free with Take2 Recycling and Reboot. Drop off your cell phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers, eyeglasses for the Lions Club, LEGO bricks for children’s programs through LEGO Replay and lightly used durable medical equipment for Wheel It Forward.
For a full list of items to be collected, guidelines and donation partners, visit https://www.wastefreegreenwich.org/events/2022/5/7/rethink-waste-fair.
Community members are encouraged to start collecting their items, bring them to the fair and stay for the fun.
Several local community partners will be sharing practical tips for ways to reduce waste stream. “We know that disposing of waste can be costly, both in terms of taxpayer dollars and the adverse impacts on public health and our environment” explained Waste Free Greenwich founder, Julie DesChamps. “We are excited to bring our local community together for a day of fun, giving back through donations of used items and learning practical ways we can make a difference.”
Waste Free Greenwich thanks its community partners for their support and participation: Blue Earth Compost, Curbside Compost, The Foodshed Network, Food Rescue US, Greenwich Conservation Commission, Greenwich Energy Management Advisory Committee, Greenwich Green and Clean, Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board, Greenwich Sustainability Committee, PYOOR and Quiet Yards Greenwich.
