The Friends of the Wallace Center hosted a Coffee and Conversation with First Selectman Fred Camillo on Wednesday, September 25. With about 80 people in attendance, the event marked the beginning of the Wallace Center Giving Day Initiative.

First Selectman Fred Camillo discussed the upcoming budget process for Greenwich and his plans for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. He was praised for beautifying downtown, specifically Greenwich Avenue, and received a round of applause when an attendee complimented his weekly Community Connections Newsletter, sent out on Fridays. Other topics included the police presence on Greenwich Avenue, with Camillo noting the efficiency of the Undercover Police Unit and four Police Officers on electric bikes in navigating the area. Requests were made for a dedicated bus to transport older adults to the Wallace Center and for increased use of 299 Greenwich Avenue, which will be undergoing renovations after the successful opening of Wallace Café earlier in 2024.
“We are grateful for First Selectman Fred Camillo’s ongoing support and engagement with our members who share a strong interest in the local community,” stated Anne Marie Hynes, Chairperson of Friends of the Wallace Center. “As we launch our inaugural Giving Day campaign, our goal is to raise essential funds and awareness for promoting healthy aging and empowering individuals to prioritize their well-being. Donations will help provide older adults with access to vital resources such as exercise classes, educational workshops, and social events that promote overall wellness.”
The Giving Day initiative isn’t just about a day of giving but about making a tangible difference in the lives of Greenwich community members. By participating in the Wallace Center Giving Day campaign, the Center can meet its most immediate programmatic needs. In addition to new weights and rack systems for their fitness programs, donations will enable the facility to purchase a large projection screen TV that will enhance a variety of member events and programs.
The Wallace Center, a trusted local resource located in the heart of town on Greenwich Avenue, is dedicated to fostering community and connecting older adults to the programs, services, and opportunities they need to age well. The Wallace Center plays a crucial role in promoting healthy aging, offering access to health information, opportunities for social engagement, and volunteerism, all in a social, fun, affordable, and conveniently located environment.
