Greenwich will usher in Independence Day with its annual flag-raising ceremony at Town Hall Plaza, organized by the Independence Day Association of Greenwich. The event is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 4th, and the community is encouraged to join in t he celebration.
The Sound Beach Community Band will set a patriotic ambiance with live music, including the Assembly trumpet call, followed by ceremonial rifle fire from the Greenwich Police Department Honor Guard. First Selectman Fred Camillo will deliver remarks, emphasizing the significance of this historic day.
The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will present the thirteen Colonial flags, and members of the Arch Street Teens will recite “I Am the Flag.” The Greenwich Boys & Girls Club will then participate in the flag raising, marking a moment of reverence and national pride.
Several high school students will be recognized for their exemplary citizenship. This year’s honorees include James Flinn from Greenwich High School, Francesca Lovero from Greenwich Country Day, Caitlin Costello from Sacred Heart, Gunner Gregory f rom Brunswick School, and Melina Saleme from Greenwich Academy.
The ceremony will also honor descendants of Greenwich’s original settlers, Revolutionary War Patriots, and Fallen Patriots of Greenwich. The names of Greenwich citizens who perished in the Revolutionary War will be read aloud, followed by a Moment of Silence, a 21-Gun Salute, and Echo Taps.
The festivities will conclude with refreshments and America’s birthday cake inside Town Hall. Last year’s event saw over 300 participants, reflecting the community’s enduring commitment to celebrating Independence Day
