Following a close road loss to Wilton this past Saturday, the Greenwich High School boys lacrosse team got back on the winning track on Tuesday, topping Horace Greeley, 13-11, at Cardinal Stadium.

With the non-conference victory, Greenwich moved its record to 4-2. Against the visiting Quakers (Chappaqua, N.Y.), the Cardinals entered halftime with a six-goal lead, which proved to be key to their fourth win of the season.

“It was a tale of two halves,” Greenwich coach Bobby Lutz said. “Greenwich went up 10-4 at halftime after a buzzer-beater by Jimmy Flinn, but then HG battled back to make it close in the end.  We need to learn how to play with a lead.”

Junior attack Mikey Brescia recorded a game-high four goals and four assists to pace the Cardinals’ attack. Conrad Burki, also a junior, attack, registered four goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Jimmy Flinn had one goal and three assists for Greenwich.

Also leading Greenwich’s offense were midfielder Jake Duda (three assists), attackman Dean Kim (two goals), Boden Farmer (one goal, one assist), midfielder Colin Zeller (one goal) and Lane Critchell (one assist).

“They did a good job shutting off Colin Zeller the entire game, but that opened it up for Brescia and Burki who both had four goals each,” Lutz noted.

Critchell, a senior, won 15 of the 20 faceoffs he took to spark the Cards, while teammate Dylan Botoff won four faceoffs. Goalie Ilan Amaro made six saves, while teammate Jack Hamel stopped three shots for the victors.

“Lane Critchell had another great day at the faceoff X,” Lutz said.

Greenwich visits FCIAC rival New Canaan on Thursday for a noon matchup.
