First Selectman Fred Camillo Calls Out DTC Inaccuracies

The following is a statement from Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo

“The Greenwich Democratic Town Committee has again sent out a factually incorrect email, this time regarding neighborhood improvements in Glenville and Pemberwick that I personally have pushed for. They are playing politics and clearly have not learned their lesson from last November’s election.”

People of Greenwich will not be fooled by inaccurate statements, disingenuous headlines or distortions of reality. The most recent email from the DTC states that the First Selectman has reneged on the campaign pledge of funding projects for pedestrian and public safety in Glenville.

This is completely inaccurate and in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

The most recent budget I submitted to the BET in January calls for the fulfillment of my campaign pledge to put a sidewalk on Weaver Street from its intersection with Hawthorne to Glenville Road.

As for the corridor improvements, that is something that relies on State funding and the Town’s Department of Public Works is working with the Connecticut Department of Transportation to determine if there is grant money available for the work. If that money is found, contracts could quickly be signed. And if there is no money available right now because of the delay caused by a reconsideration three years ago, due to trees and then price inflation, then we will pursue this with the BET.

The videos we have embedded HERE and HERE are from Thursday, Feb. 15, where Town Deputy Commissioner of Public Works Jim Michel made a presentation to the Active Transportation Task Force about Glenville improvements. His comments state the facts, not the political distortions that were in the DTC’s email.

The DTC should stick to promoting candidates and issues they believe in, not manipulating the facts to suit their agenda and wound political opponents. That does not work in Greenwich. People here are too smart to not see through the distortions.”
