For the first time in its 102-year history, the Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop ended the fiscal year with a record $1.03 million in sales, enabling the volunteer organization to donate a half-a-million dollars to fund equipment for the hospital.

In addition, the Auxiliary completed its five-year commitment to support the Greenwich Hospital’s midwife program with a donation of $200,000 and announced a new five-year $1 million pledge to support behavioral healthcare services. A total of 284 volunteers – including 62 junior volunteers in the summer program – provided 27,206 hours of service. Volunteers work in departments throughout the hospital and its offsite locations.

“You are all an important part of the Greenwich Hospital culture. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your caring and commitment,” Diane Kelly, DNP, president, told the audience at last month’s 73rd annual Auxiliary Board of Directors meeting.

Ann Steyer, Thrift Shop manager, thanked the community for its support, noting that proceeds from the shop help to fund patient care. Steyer attributed the increase in sales, in part, to the successful use of staging to highlight furniture and other donations.

Fourteen Thrift Shop volunteers were named Volunteers of the Year: Louise Ciero, Phyllis Clement, Marie Feda, Laura Fidelibus, Francesca Fraine, Myung Hong, Angela Illuzzi, Maureen Johnson, Robin Matta, Terry Mitchell, Maria Rivera, Carol Sabato, Joanne Spiel and Judith Woeckener. In addition, the board elected a new slate of officers: Calvin Murray, Rye Brook, NY, president; Betsy Bernstein, Old Greenwich, vice president; Laurie Harrison, Greenwich, treasurer; and Deborah Parker, Greenwich, secretary.

“Greenwich Hospital volunteers are extraordinary people who care,” said Stacey Green, director, Volunteer Services.
