Robert Gray

Robert Daniel Gray, 81, passed away after a brief illness on June 5, 2022. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Carol Crow Gray; his three sons, Bobby Gray of Londonderry, Vermont, Clifton Gray of Greenwich, Connecticut and Adrian Gray of Bedford, New York; his six grandchildren, as well as brother Lyons Gray of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Robert was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on January 6, 1941 to Bowman Gray Jr and Elizabeth “Libby” Christian Gray as the third of five boys. His parents and brothers Bowman III, Christian, and Randy preceded him in death.

Robert attended Summit School in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Fay School in Southborough, Massachusetts, and was a 1959 graduate of St. Mark’s School in Southborough, Massachusetts. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1964.

In his early career, he was a floor broker on The New York Stock Exchange. In 1979, he co-founded the brokerage firm, Reynders Gray & Company, where he spent three decades trading securities. He retired in 2011.

Robert was a longtime resident of Greenwich, Connecticut and Hobe Sound, Florida. He served on the boards for the Greenwich Country Day School, Fay School (Southborough, MA) and Camp Pasquaney (Hebron, New Hampshire). He was a member of the Round Hill Club, the Jupiter Island Club and Seminole Golf Club.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church in Greenwich on Friday, June 24 at 11 a.m. The interment service will be held privately in Hobe Sound, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the Gray family has requested that donations be sent to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
