Alzheimer’s Association ‘Celebrating Hope’ benefit set for May 13

The Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter’s 9th annual Celebrating Hope benefit will be held in person this year at a new venue – The Village in Stamford – on May 13.

The “Hope on the Horizon” event will feature a stationed dinner, cocktails, entertainment and viewing of the silent auction beginning at 6:30pm. A brief and inspirational program will be emceed by long-time supporter Kendra Farn, and will feature Lisa Marshall, who cared for her husband Peter, until he passed away last year. There will be live auction items, entertainment by Salty Sweet, a paddle raise and an exclusive VIP “Raise the Roof” Afterparty, at The House upstairs starting at 9pm with DJ April Larken. FOX 61’s Matt Scott will serve as auctioneer.

There are more than 80,000 people living with Alzheimer’s in Connecticut, and that number is expected to reach more than 91,000 by 2025. Money raised at this annual gala helps the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter educate and empower those living with dementia and their caregivers, while continuing to support critical research to advance treatments for Alzheimer’s and all dementia.

The 2022 Celebrating Hope chair is Wendy Day from Old Greenwich, who became a Certified Senior Advisor three years ago while being a caregiver for her own parents.

“I watched my father lose his mother and aunt to dementia, and then he developed vascular dementia after several strokes and recently passed away,” says Day. “Living this daily as well as helping and listening to other people’s stories, I knew I wanted to do more to help find a cure for this disease.”

Lisa Marshall documented her dementia journey with her husband on her blog “Oh, Hello Alzheimer’s” and will receive the Resilience and Hope Award that night. She now helps other caregivers, by offering advice and comfort and by letting them know they are not alone.

Since its inception, Celebrating Hope has raised more than $1.5 million for Alzheimer’s and dementia care and research.
