Frederick Gunn 5
Brunswick 1
The final score does not indicate the battle of two good teams in a playoff race — but the result will stand as a Frederick Gunn 5-1 victory after four third period goals in front of a packed house tonight at Hartong.
Gunn earned the W by playing a fast, physical, hard-nosed brand of hockey — capitalizing on its chances in the decisive 18 minutes, whereas the Bruins couldn’t solve the Highlanders’ netminder after birthday boy John Burdett’s blast in the opening frame.
This one doesn’t go on ‘Wick’s goaltender Brendan Holahan, who did all he could — including taking a sure goal off the neck diving across the crease to keep the Bruins alive late in the game. What a save.
Gunn finished it off with an empty-netter and tacked on another for the final.
The boys need to shake this one off and be ready to hit the road to Berkshire tomorrow.
2:30 faceoff in Sheffield, Mass.
