Dr. William Devlin, Purple Heart recipient during Vietnam conflict, current international humanitarian in the war zones and inspirational speaker, will speak Saturday June 5 at 10am at the Greenwich Baptist Church, 10 Indian Rock Lane in Greenwich.

For the past ten years, Devlin has been working in the war zones of the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa to alleviate the suffering of widows and orphans. This year, Devlin has traveled to Northern Nigeria, Khartoum Sudan, East Pokot Kenya and Egypt doing humanitarian work especially in the area of Gender-Based violence, FGM (female genital mutilation), child marriage and building schools where schools have never existed.

Devlin stated,, “My target audience are widows and orphans and my target places are war zones-Syria, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Gaza; the forgotten the neglected, the marginalized, the broken, the persecuted-the needs are great and my two organizations, REDEEM! and WidowsAndOrphans.info are practicing what my Jewish colleagues call, “Tikkun Olam” or ‘repairing the world”.

On April 4, 2021 in Benue State Nigeria, Devlin re-dedicated a rebuilt church in the town of Agatu which, five years ago, was destroyed by terrorists. Last month, Devlin dedicated a new primary school in East Pokot, Baringo County, northwestern Kenya where Pokot girls are being delivered from FGM and child marriage. “We are a small organization and we are having great impact.”

Devlin will also recount his Vietnam story, wounded as a teenager in June 1972, in which he received The Purple Heart, the Combat Action medal and the Meritorious Unit Award.

Admission is free; all are invited; a free lunch will be served.
