During a meeting on Friday, the Greenwich Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the lifting of the snow emergency in town, effective at 4 p.m. The order was put into place ahead of the Nor’Easter on Wednesday night.

First Selectman Fred Camillo thanked town employees in a Facebook post following the storm yesterday.

A special thanks to our Dept. of Public Works employees who did an A+ job cleaning the streets of snow and making our safe passage possible the past 24 hours.  Also, hats off to our Fleet Department for keeping our vehicles running today and every day as well as our Fire, Police, EMTs, and Emergency Operations Manager, Dan Warzoha. You all did Greenwich proud!” Camillo said. He also thanked the Parks & Recreation Department in a seperate post.

The town reminded residents about the clearing of snow in a statement regarding the lifting of the emergency on Friday.

“As a reminder, the Town ordinance requires Greenwich property owners to be responsible for clearing snow and ice from all sidewalks along their property. The Town of Greenwich prohibits plow contractors from pushing snow from driveways or parking lots onto Town streets,” the statement said in part. “If there is no other alternative to pushing snow into the street, the private plow driver must plow off the windrow left across the street by re-plowing until the road is safe.”

Additionally, the Department of Public Works is reminding local restaurant owners who have permitted outdoor dining nodes that the restaurants themselves are responsible for all snow cleanup of the areas behind the node barriers. Restaurant operators are also responsible for cleaning the sidewalk along the front of their respective property.
