This Week In the News: July 10, 2020

Many tax filing deadlines are next week on July 15.

Individuals traveling to Connecticut from Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah are strongly urged to self-quarantine for fourteen days.

Contact Tracing: If you see “CT COVID TRACE” appear on your phone, it is an official communication from the state alerting you that someone you may have been in contact with has tested positive for COVID-19.

The federal government has extended the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) until August 8, 2020, and is now accepting applications again.

Governor Lamont postponed our Phase 3 reopening, originally scheduled for July 20, due to a rise in COVID-19 cases in other states. Indoor dining and gyms will remain at 50% capacity, bars will remain closed, and indoor private gatherings may still not exceed 25 people. Outdoor events may be up to 100 people. Campgrounds are still permitted to open as planned.

The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles resumed road testing services for driver’s licenses as well as new vehicle registration services on June 30, at select DMV locations. Knowledge testing for motorcycle learner’s permits resumed on July 7 at DMV’s Bridgeport and Waterbury locations. For more information, visit: portal.ct.gov/dmv

On Monday, July 13, 10 – 11:30 a.m., GLT’s Conservation Outreach Manager, Dan Brubaker will guide guests on a low-intensity walk around the wildflower meadow and pollinator gardens at the Mueller Preserve. He will also open up some of the beehives for guests to view, discuss honeybee biology, and answer questions about keeping bees. Space is limited to 10 people and pre-registration is required at gltrust.org/program/summer-wildflower-walk-honeybee-check

Join Greenwich Audubon Center on Friday, July 10 for ‘Fantastic Fireflies’ – a virtual nighttime adventure to discover one of summer’s most special insects! The program takes place from 8 to 9 p.m. Several ticket levels are available, beginning at $10.
