Greenwich Historical Society’s landmark exhibition showcasing the role Greenwich women played on the national stage in achieving the passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment, will re-open to visitors June 20, after being closed in early March due to the Coronavirus restrictions.
“We’re so pleased to be able to open our galleries to the public,” says Maggie Dimock, Greenwich Historical Society Curator of Exhibitions and Collections. “Since the exhibition was unveiled in February, there has been a great deal of interest from the community, with many groups coming through. To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, advanced reservations will be required to visit our museum galleries, and the number of visitors will be limited. Tickets may be reserved on our website, or by calling ahead.”
Visitors will also be able to shop at the Museum Store, which has a curated collection of suffrage-related items for adults and children. All Museum Store items are also available online: greenwichhistory.org/shop/. The Library and Archives will be open by appointment only.
‘An Unfinished Revolution: The Woman’s Suffrage Centennial’, curated by museum veteran Kathleen Craughwell-Varda, features a wide variety of historic objects from museums, libraries, private collections, and descendants of suffragists to illustrate the long struggle for the right to vote. The exhibition also tackles social and civic issues that resonate today, such as voter registration, voter suppression and the Equal Rights Amendment.
The Museum galleries, located at 47 Strickland Rd., Cos Cob, will be open by advanced registration from Wednesday to Sunday for 1-hour time slots at 12, 1:30 and 3 p.m. Admissions fees will be waived for all visitors through the end of August. Gardens, Docent Tours and Art Camp to Continue
The Historical Society’s heirloom gardens and historic grounds will remain open, and new docent-led Site & Landscape Tours will debut in the weeks to come. History, Art Camps will continue in limited on-site formats in July. The Bush-Holley House will remain closed to the public until further notice.
