This afternoon, First Selectman Fred Camillo provided an update on the COVID-19 crisis.

Camillo confirmed that there are currently no more than 6 people infected with the virus in Greenwich, two are hospitalized. However, 24 additional individuals had been tested. Not all were Greenwich residents. No information was available as to ages or if they contracted the virus through community spread.

The First Selectman also stated that all playgrounds throughout town are closed but they do not want to close the parks.

“We are absolutely encouraging people to go outside and exercise, but to do so at a distance,” Camillo stated. “We are getting some reports that not everyone is adhering to the social distancing suggestions so we will be monitoring.”

Camillo, stressed the need for social distancing and said that the town is continuing to prep and monitor should the number of cases rise, stating “We are trying to stay ahead of it and slow it down.”

Additionally, Camillo stated the police officers on Greenwich Avenue have been removed for the time being and reassigned to other duties so that they can be available to respond to any situation as needed.

No additional business closings are planned at this point, but the town is monitoring the situation.
