Lake Avenue Bridge to Close June 21

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled closure of the Lake Avenue Bridge over the Merritt Parkway in Greenwich beginning on Friday, June 21. The closure is necessary to facilitate construction activities associated with the rehabilitation of the structure. The bridge will reopen by Oct. 20.

Lake Avenue traffic will utilize Lower Cross Road, North Street and Grahampton Lane to access each side of the closed bridge. Detour signs will be posted for guidance.

Motorist can also expect lane closures on the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) during the construction of the bridge. The allowable work hours for this project on the Merritt Parkway are Monday through Friday Southbound between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., Northbound between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. excluding statewide holiday lane closure restrictions.

About the Project

The project consists of replacing all the structural steel members and the concrete bridge deck. The decorative panels and ornamental railing will be preserved by cleaning and painting offsite and returned to their original locations on the new structure. A two-tube rail system will replace the existing metal beam rail.

DOT Project No. 56-309 was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. of Plantsville, CT on Jan. 18, at a cost of $4,593,699.65 and is scheduled for completion on Nov. 30.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity and be guided by Construction signs and lane devices for lane closures.
