The Greenwich High School boys’ hockey team saw its season come to an end Tuesday afternoon at the Darien Ice Rink, falling to New Canaan High School 2-1 in overtime of the CIAC Division I opening round.

The Cards were winning 1-0, off a goal by Christ Cataldo, until the final seconds of regulation. NCHS’s Brendan Knightly got the rebound and fired the puck into the net with 11.3 seconds to play. In overtime, it took less than a minute for Gunnar Granito to give New Canaan the 2-1 victory.

Just over a week ago, these same two teams played each other in the FCIAC quarterfinals, with GHS scoring three times in the first period and beating the Rams 3-2.
