Obituary: Hermine Pappas

Hermine M. Pappas passed away on Jan. 5, 2019 in Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, CT. She was 85 years old.

She is survived by her husband George Pappas of Riverside CT, daughter Irene H.M. Pappas of New York, N.Y., son Albert Pappas and his wife Sandy Pappas and grandchildren Ella Pappas and Eliza Pappas of Atlanta, Georgia.

She was born in Frutigen, Switzerland in the Bernese Oberland and spoke several languages including Swiss-German, German, French and English. Hermine was educated in Switzerland and is a graduate of the Sekundarschule in Uetendorf BE and of the Kaufmannische Berufsschule in Thun BE.

Hermine had a prolific career beginning with the United States Mission to the U.N. in Geneva, Switzerland as assistant to the Counsel General of the United States. She immigrated to New York and held positions at the French Line in San Francisco, Calif. and the 1964 New York World’s Fair in Queens, N.Y. where she was a translator in the International Division and served as aide to former New York State Lt. Governor, Charles Poletti. Hermine went on to a successful 25 year career as a real estate broker with David Ogilvy & Associates in Greenwich.
