Heavy rain will impact the region beginning late Thursday night into Friday, bringing strong winds and potential flooding.
According to swctweather.com, Thursday will become increasingly cloudy as the day goes on, and light showers are expected after 4 p.m. Showers will remain light until midnight into Friday, when conditions are expected to greatly intensify.
From swctweather:
Some forecast models show very heavy rain and the worst winds in the morning [on Friday], while others show a slower storm system that waits until the afternoon to bring the worst winds and rain. By late Friday morning, though, we should see heavy rain that could result in isolated flooding issues. Wind gusts up to 50 mph may be possible with the storm Friday late morning through the afternoon. This likely will require a Wind Advisory at least for coastal areas.
Winds do not look to get so strong so as to cause widespread damage, and instead it will be more isolated, but it will still be a threat to keep an eye on as the storm nears. The same goes for flooding, but generally 2-3 inches of rain across the region looks likely, with some of it falling very quickly. Friday evening the heaviest rain moves through and the winds should die down behind the main storm system, but scattered showers continue through Friday night with cloudy skies. Warm air is able to linger as well with lows in the mid 40s.
A flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Southern Fairfield County, beginning at 1 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 21 until 1 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 22. A small craft advisory has been issued as well.
Residents should avoid flooded areas and possible downed wires or trees.
