

Santa Micalizzi, beloved wife of Gaetano Micalizzi, died Sunday, Oct. 21, at Greenwich Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 11, 1931 in Campo Calabro, Reggio Calabria, Italy. In 1953 she met and married her husband of sixty-five years, Gaetano Micalizzi. He moved to Greenwich in 1969 and sent for her and their five children in 1970.
She was the adored mother of five children: Francesca Amicucci of Moreno Valley, Calif., Mirella Bertone (Vincenzo) of Greenwich, Frank Micalizzi (Donna) of Las Vegas, NV, Josephine Carlson (Darrin) of Highland, Calif. and Joseph Micalizzi (Maria) of Corona, Calif.
She is survived by her three sisters: Maria Controneo of Reggio Calabria, Italy, Pina Controneo of Messina, Sicily, and Mimma Latorraca of Stamford, her five children, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Santa, a devoted mother, lived for her family, knitting and cooking for them. Her immense pride in their accomplishments was the focus of her life.
Calling hours will be held at Coxe-Graziano Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. Her funeral will take place Thursday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m., at St. Roch’s Church.
