Obituary: Evelyn Bausman

Evelyn Knierim Bausman of Greenwich, CT died on Aug. 1, 2018 at the age of 82. She was born on July 8, 1936 in Shanghai, China to Carl and Olive Knierim. A few years later, the Knierim family moved back to Carl’s native Germany. Evelyn was educated at the Hochalpines Institut Ftan school in Switzerland and at the University of Geneva, where she studied languages. After the University of Geneva, Evelyn moved to Frankfurt and worked for TWA. In Frankfurt, she met John Bausman (Jack) and they married in 1961. After living in Frankfurt, Germany and Moscow, Russia, Evelyn and Jack and their four children moved to the United States and settled in Greenwich in 1973.

Evelyn was a long time and active member of Christ Church faithfully serving on the music committee, opening her home to refugees and visiting musicians, and as a member of the Community of Hope. Evelyn very much enjoyed music and the arts, and especially enjoyed sharing those moments with family and friends. Her many friends from around the world will remember Evelyn’s passion for life, her ceaseless generosity, her cultural tips, her amazing dinner parties, and her strong opinions. She is survived by her three children, Mary-Fred Bausman- Watkins and her husband, Peter, of St. Paul, MN; Charles Bausman and his wife Kristina, and daughter in law, Olga Bausman of Moscow, Russia; John Bausman and his wife Anita, of New Canaan, CT, along with 10 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Jane Bausman and her husband Jack Bausman.

A funeral service will be held at Christ Church in Greenwich on Friday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Jane Bausman Memorial Scholarship Fund.
