Obituary: Lyn Simmons

Lyn Edith Simmons passed away on May 2, 2018. She was 95-and-a- half years old.

Born in New York City on Oct. 30, 1922, daughter of Jack and Beatrice Goldman, she attended Rollins and later Queens College. She was Vice President for Public Relations and Advertising at Rockaway Metal Products and worked for several advertising agencies.

For over 30 years she was a full time, brilliant artist, having studied at Columbia University’s School of Art and the Art Student’s League in New York.

She painted vivid, colorful landscapes, abstracts, still lifes and human forms with pastels, watercolor and collage. Her work won many juried competitions and was widely admired. She also composed a great number of outstanding and insightful short stories and poems.

Lyn was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, enormous creative talent, sharp intelligence, interest in a wide array of topics, and a strong independent spirit.

She is survived by her son Steve, daughter Eve (her son Andy predeceased her), her grandchildren Sara, Caroline, Julia, Nick and Cliff, great grandson Ford, daughter-in-law Eileen, and grandsons-in-law Phillip and Art.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be deeply missed.

A memorial service to celebrate her life was held May 5 at Gallagher’s Funeral Home.
