Due to less than predicted snowfall totals and a quick clean-up in Greenwich, Town Hall and its facilities will open at regularly scheduled times on Thursday, March 22, according to an update from the Office of the First Selectman.

“We are pleased that most Town residents were proactive and obeyed the Snow Emergency parking ban,” said First Selectman, Peter Tesei. “While some Town residents’ cars were towed, for the most part, residents realized the importance of keeping the major routes in Town clear so that our DPW and Parks & Recreation crews can effectively do their work – clearing the streets so that we can resume normal operations and lift the Snow Emergency as soon as possible.”

The Town’s Snow Emergency and the on-street parking ban along Snow Emergency routes will remain in effect until further notice.

According to Greenwich Police Chief, James Heavey, the number of motor vehicle accidents around town remained low, due to residents heeding advice and staying off roadways. As of 9 p.m., Wednesday night, there were 11 reported crashes in Greenwich; no injuries were reported.

The town’s update noted that there has been minimal impact on coastal flooding, with no power outages reported. As of 9:15 p.m., there was one report of a fallen tree limb.

Should any resident lose power, the Public Safety Complex at 11 Bruce Place will remain open 24 hours per day as a warming and charging location.

The next update will be given at 9 a.m., Thursday.

Residents are reminded that Town ordinance requires the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of a storm event. Snowplow operators also are reminded that it is illegal to push snow into roadways.
