Obituary: Luise Srubar

Luise Paulina Srubar, widow of George W. Srubar, died peacefully in Greenwich, CT. on Feb. 27, 2018. Her daughters were by her side. She was 95.

She was born in Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, on June 18, 1922, daughter of the late Luci and Heinrich Karlshof.

Mrs. Srubar and her husband immigrated to the United States in the 1950’s. They founded Marathon Marine Company, a successful ship engineering firm in Manhattan, serving the German, Polish, Japanese, Greek and American shipping lines. A New Yorker for many decades, Mrs. Srubar was also a long time resident of Greenwich, CT.

She is survived by her sister Ingeborg Williams of England and brothers Adi Karlshof and Carl Heinz Karlshof of Germany.

Mrs. Srubar leaves two daughters, Jeanette Srubar Wallace, husband Bennie L. Wallace of Greenwich and Candice Srubar Leonard, husband Craig D. Leonard of Greenwich, and her granddaughter Casey Quinn Leonard.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 3, at St. Michael’s Church, 469 North St., Greenwich.  Burial will follow at Putnam Cemetery.
