Pedestrian Struck, Killed in Central Greenwich

Update, Feb. 8, 2 p.m.

The victim of Wednesday’s fatal accident in central Greenwich on Milbank Avenue has been identified as Robert Bono, 70, of 249 Milbank Ave., according to the Greenwich Police Department in a statement released Thursday afternoon.

“The operator of the vehicle which struck Mr. Bono stopped immediately and has been cooperative with investigators. His name is being withheld pending further investigation,” the statement said.

Bono was stuck and killed by a motor vehicle early Wednesday evening in central Greenwich when he was crossing Milbank Avenue on foot around 5:55 p.m.

After the collision, Bono slid underneath a nearby parked car. Greenwich police, fire and EMS responded to the scene, and were able to extricate him. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

The collision is currently under investigation by the Greenwich Police Department Traffic Section. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to call Sgt. Patrick Smyth at 203-622-8015.
