This month, families at Christ Church Nursery School (CCNS) are jump-starting their New Year’s resolutions and bringing the fight to cancer as a community.
CCNS is teaming up with the Linda W. Daniel Foundation to move together and support their “Move Me Monday” initiative. Each Monday in January a local fitness instructor is teaching a class at Christ Church and parents have an opportunity to participate, socialize and win raffle prizes. Participants are asked to donate the amount they would generally pay for a class and all proceeds will benefit CCNS & Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Classes offered include “Strong Mom” boot camp with Erin Marich, Yoga with Cynthia Wolfe of Kaia Yoga and Equinox, and group training with LaMont Rollins of the YMCA.
Even CCNS students get to join in during their Monday Yoga classes with Beth Meister of Little Flower and Kaia Yoga Studios. Christ Church Nursery School, a preschool offering programs for children ages two to five, is a warm community of children, parents and teachers who are committed to giving back. “Move Me Mondays is another wonderful way that we can encourage a giving attitude among our students,” says director Jennifer Purdy. “Teaching children core values is as important to a young child’s growth as math and literacy.”
The Linda W. Daniel Foundation was created to remember and honor Linda Daniel who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 1995 and lost her fight in 2000. LWDF is led by CCNS family Kyle & Laura Daniel. It was founded on the belief that the end of cancer beings with prevention. The “Move Me Monday” initiative is designed to help raise cancer prevention awareness, funds to support leading cancer organizations, and promote a more active lifestyle. The LWDF mission is ‘to challenge the athlete in you to fight cancer today.
