Each year in early December, the First Congregational Church creates a true community musical event for local singers and music lovers by assembling a Festival Chorus to present the Christmas part of Handel’s Messiah.

This year’s performance will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m., at the church Meetinghouse, 108 Sound Beach Ave.

“Everyone who has some choral experience is welcome to join this special Festival Chorus,” said Dr. Craig Symons, Music Director at First Church. “We want everyone who loves to sing to experience the joy of performing this great holiday piece with a full Chamber Orchestra and a core group of very talented regular Chorus members.”

While community participation is central to the event, the performance will be anchored by an illustrious set of professional soloists, including Sharla Nafziger, soprano, Kate Maroney, mezzo-soprano, Bill Heigen, tenor, and Nathaniel Sullivan, bass.

Tickets for the performance are available at $25, online at fccog.org/music/handels-messiah
