Family Centers Launches New Parent Education Program

Family Centers announces the implementation of “Minding the Baby” (MTB) — a preventative, interdisciplinary home visiting program for first-time Greenwich/Stamford area parents.

Developed by faculty at Yale University Child Study Center and Yale University School of Nursing, MTB aims to help at-risk parents establish early and positive bonds with their babies through home visits focusing on maternal and child health, parent-infant attachment, developmental guidance, parenting support and maternal life course outcomes.

Staffed by a registered nurse and social worker, the program promotes strong early mother/baby relationships, which form the foundation for physical health, solid brain architecture, social development and learning.

Funding for Family Centers’ MTB program was made possible by a grant from the Grossman Family Foundation.

MTB is a voluntary program open to expectant and new parents living in Greenwich or Stamford. Services are offered free of charge. Once enrolled, participating families will receive weekly home visits from our team until the baby’s first birthday. Visitations then occur on a bi-weekly schedule, and continue until the baby’s second birthday. In addition to in-home consultation, participating families also have access to Family Centers’ continuum of health, education and human service programs.

For more information, contact Family Centers’ Vice President Leslie P. Sexer at lsexer@familycenters.org or 203-324-3167.

Currently, MTB services are offered to a small number of families in New Haven through the National Office; as well as through a replication project in Miami, Florida. MTB services are also offered to families through replication in areas of Scotland, England, and Denmark. For more information, visit mtb.yale.edu
