The merged local Lions clubs – now the Greenwich Lions Club – ended its first “united” year on a high note with a swearing in of new officers and awards bestowed on outstanding longtime volunteers. They are: Kammi Mehta, incoming president; officers Doug Carlson, Alan Gunzberg, Kevin McCarthy, and Jim Stafford. Gunzberg and retiring president, David Bonney, were honored with the Lions International’s Knight of the Blind award for their many years of service. Stafford and Sarah Gleeson received the organization’s Ambassador of Sight recognition.

Lions Club International, whose motto is “We Serve,” turns 100 this year. The largest service organization in the world, it numbers over 1.4 million volunteers working in 200 countries to improve their communities by meeting humanitarian needs.
