Designers, Robert Passal and Kim Alessi, have created a layered space filled with contemporary products and classical antiques paired with design services in a multifunctional showroom and workspace for both consumers and trade.
The concept is a simple one – create a space where exceptional products, ideas and design services can be discovered in an exclusive environment. All are invited into this shop by appointment or walk-in and will have the opportunity to meet with Robert, Kim or any of the vendors who will be using the space as their home base. The atelier vibe will resemble a high-end home, supplying luxury furniture and fabrics, audio and lighting making it an essential one-stop-shop for your home.
“The overall concept is to have all clients that enter the space to feel as though they’ve been transported to a luxe, sexy, sophisticated home which is all sensory; mood lighting, personalized and romantic aroma. Beautiful suites of home furnishings and accessories in which they can envision themselves living and a background of incredibly motivating music,” stated Robert Passal.
You arrive at the atelier via a vestibule, which is layered with a custom ombre wallcovering and a striking vintage Murano glass chandelier setting the stage before you enter this moody yet sexy space. Imagine a loft bathed in deepest of peacock blue walls in which a series of vignettes are artfully staged including an entry filled with flowers, a formal living area with fireplace, a dining area, home office and a kitchen. Materials and details are what draw you into the space from the bronzed base of the kitchen island to the hand leather and stained wide plank wood floors. A 1970’s Jansen sofa is wrapped in cashmere whereas the Passal designed custom dining banquet is fully upholstered in a performance fabric allowing the buyer to eat at it without fear. The space has been assembled in a manner, which allows clients to envision how they would actually live in the space. The juxtaposition of art, antiques and contemporary furnishings invoke a modern livable and luxe lifestyle.
Putnam & Mason will be able to handle every facet of building and designing a home from new build and renovations to interior and exterior design including home technology. Robert and Kim have curated a list of the best full service contractors, architects, landscapers, and AV companies in the Greenwich area that will guide the client through the process of finishing their home. “Our goal is to offer the majority of products for sale from the floor. We are hoping to fulfill the needs of those in the market for instant gratification,” said Kim Alessi. In-stock products will be delivered within 24 hours and installation is available.
In addition, Putnam & Mason wishes to become the go to trade showroom for local designers offering an array of fabrics, wall coverings, rugs, lighting, accessories and customizable home furnishing to designers at a trade rate. For designers, a unique aspect of the new concept at Putnam & Mason is the kitchen, called “The Sample Bar.” Although it will still function as a beverage station for clients to get coffee, water, and wine the main reason for the kitchen is as a workspace for designers to layout their projects. The island and cabinetry will be filled with various samples of fabric, wallpaper, paint, and more.
Vendors will use the space as if it is their own showroom, giving clients the opportunity to see their work in action. Local service vendors are Robert Passal Interior Design, KLASP Home, Wheelock Kitchens, Phoenix Audio Video, Eastridge Construction, and Gro Pro. Putnam & Mason will represent collections such as KLASP Home, Robert Passal Wallcoverings & Fabrics, Loro Piana, Romo, Chesney’s, Holland & Sherry, Brett Designs, Sacco Carpets, Baker and Kravet.
Putnam & Mason is located at 34 East Putnam Ave. The store is open to the trade and public Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
