Bruce Museum educator Kathleen Holko was named the 2017 Outstanding Museum Educator at the Connecticut Art Education Association’s Outstanding Art Educators Awards Dinner on April 2. The statewide CÆA Outstanding Art Educators awards recognize visual arts educators for demonstrating excellence in the classroom, active participation and leadership at the local, state, and/or national level, publications and/or exhibits, advocacy for the arts, and other art education related accomplishments.

As Manager of School & Tour Services, Holko works on a team that is responsible for the education of over 27,000 children and adults who visit the Bruce Museum each year. In addition to teaching, she trains the corps of nearly 40 volunteer docents, who assist in providing programs that complement museum exhibitions. She supervises high school students who teach afterschool programs at the museum and outreach instructors, who take museum programs to regional schools and other organizations. Holko also has curated exhibitions on oysters, Native American pottery, and children’s book art, and presented at national and regional forums for museum professionals. She has worked at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich for five years and resides in Darien.
