The Nantucket Project (TNP) Library Series presents The Power of Parity: Imagining Gender Equality in Politics, Finance, Tech & Religion,” on Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m.

The fight for gender equality in the U.S. is being waged daily in sectors where women remain vastly underrepresented. The statistics are unnerving: Women hold 19% of seats in Congress and only 8% of its committee chairs; Women entrepreneurs receive less than 2% of all venture capital dollars; Only 14% of financial advisers are women; In the $15 trillion US mutual fund marketplace women represent less than 7% of all investment managers; and In church hierarchies a “stained glass ceiling” continues to prevail.

What if more women were in the room, enacting laws, funding start-ups, managing investments, creating and launching new technologies, and leading churches?

On June 8, The Nantucket Project welcomes six women at the forefront of their fields to discuss a vision and a plan for achieving real parity in leadership.

The panelists are: Dita Bhargava, Vice Chair of the CT Democratic State Central Committee. Bhargava won over her district (that voted for another party for over a century) in a grassroots race for State Representative; Gillian Morris, CEO, Hitlist, (less than 6% of app developers are women and Morris is one of them); Rev. Winnie Varghese, Episcopal Priest for Social Justice, Trinity Wall Street, NYC. Varghese has been a priest for 15 years with a long-standing commitment to social justice.

The panel will be moderated by Amy Mooney and Becky Brooks. The Nantucket Library is located at 123 Mason St. Admission is $10. RSVP is required at nantucketproject.regfox.com/the-power-of-parity
