On Wednesday, April 19, the Jewish Family Services of Greenwich will host “Caring for Our Aging Parents: Dilemmas and Difficulties – Suggestions and Solutions.”
People are living longer today than ever before, bringing new challenges for both parents and their adult children. Issues can come up suddenly with a medical crisis that causes a previously independent person to need help, or in the case of a dementia or chronic illness isn’t identified until a grown child visits and recognizes that assistance is desperately needed.
This program will help you through this common but unacknowledged problem with discussions of the following topics: Warning signs that a parent is in trouble; How to start the conversation; When parents resist help; Managing stress and dealing with crises; Sibling Issues; When the ties that bind unravel; What do aging parents really want from their kids?
Roni Lang, LCSW, Center for Healthy Aging at Greenwich Hospital will be the facilitator, and Elyse Brown, Program Director, Supermarketing for Seniors, Jewish Family Services of Greenwich, the moderator.
The program begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at Jewish Family Services of Greenwich, One Holly Hill Ln. There is no charge for this program, but registration is required. Call 203-622-1881 or email tn@jfsgreenwich.org
