Over cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres provided by celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s “The National” just a few doors down on the Avenue, more than 200 guests attended the opening night of the highly anticipated high-tech company’s arrival in Greenwich.

The opening night drew an impressive roster of industry pioneers and political leaders who came out to show their support of bringing the company’s electric cars and products to town, including state Sen. Scott Frantz, state Rep. Mike Bocchino and Donald Strait, president of Connecticut Fund for the Environment.

“It was excellent to see such a great number of community and state leaders in support of our gallery opening,” said Jeremy Snyder, director of the Eastern U.S., Tesla Motors.

Guests were eager to explore the interiors of the Tesla Model S and the Tesla Model X and peruse the glossy design center, all while learning about the cars high-end features and energy efficient usage through Tesla staff members.

One local couple, married for 40 years, posed for a photo inside the spacious and luxurious trunk of the Model X SUV; the SUV seats up to seven passengers.

The Tesla gallery will serve as an “educational hub” where engaged consumers can learn about and explore the Tesla cars as well as the company’s ancillary, energy independent, environmentally conscious products, such as the Tesla PowerWall, a rechargeable battery that stores energy from solar panels.

Prospective buyers can schedule a “demonstrative drive” out of their home or office, but drives will not be offered out of the gallery.

Once purchased, state buyers will be able to pick up their new vehicles through the company’s delivery center in White Plains, N.Y. Connecticut franchise laws prohibit the direct sales of cars by auto manufacturers.

The Tesla gallery is located at 340 Greenwich Ave. and is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
