The Greenwich High School boys soccer team kept the good times rolling earlier today, playing Westhill High School and coming away with the 3-2 victory.

With the score 2-1 at the end of the first half, and after GHS fell behind 1-0 early in the first, Big Red played a solid second half, scoring two goals to take victory.

“That was the best half of soccer played by us so far this season and against the opposition we’ve faced,” said Greenwich head coach Kurt Putnam. “But we have to develop greater emotional and mental strength to play like that for longer and stop giving away careless and needless fouls.”

Greenwich was led my Alex Maclean, who finished with two goals, both in the first half. Flavien Lolo added Big Red’s third goal in the second half.

Westhill started the contest firing on all cylinders, scoring early. Greenwich controlled much of the first half possession the rest of the way, with solid ball movement creating several excellent chances that required more composure.

The second half was a closer affair, with both teams trading punches. Westhill was strong on the set pieces, while Greenwich High was threatening with more open play.

A free kick deep in the Viking’s end saw Kai Lammers drill a ball in at the keeper who failed to hold it with Lolo heading in for the 3-1 lead. Westhill responded with six minutes to play, but Big Red held on for a hard-fought win.
